SANS/SABS 664 RSV: CTC, LCR & Epoxy Coating

February 26, 2026

Metalsin is a premier supplier of SANS/SABS 664 resilient-seal gate valves (RSV) for major cities and municipalities across South Africa. Our high-grade ductile iron valves are widely utilized in critical waterworks projects, including municipal water supply, wastewater treatment, and reclaimed water systems.

SANS 664 RSV: NRS gate valves.

Ductile iron resilient-seated gate valves made to SANS/SABS 664, non-rising stem design, furnished with flanged ends according to SANS 1123, top cap nut (left) or handwheel (right) operated.

Available in both OS&Y rising stem and non-rising stem (NRS) configurations, these valves can be furnished with either spigot ends, socket ends or flanged ends to meet specific pipeline requirements. We offer versatile operation options, ranging from standard top cap nuts and handwheels to advanced pneumatic or electric actuators. All our SANS 664 valves are engineered to meet Clockwise-to-Close (CTC) standards and comply with Local Content Requirements (LCR), featuring high-performance internal and external epoxy coatings.

Core Specifications and Compliance

To ensure long-term performance in South African infrastructure, our RSV gate valves adhere to the following technical and regulatory requirements:

1. Clockwise-to-Close (CTC)

In accordance with South African waterworks tradition and safety protocols, our valves are designed for Clockwise-to-Close (CTC) operation. The valve shall be closed turning the handwheel or top cap nut (input spindle) in a direction that is clockwise when the spindle is viewed from above. This ensures consistency for local operators and maintenance teams across municipal networks, preventing operational errors during emergency shut-offs or routine maintenance.

2. Local Content Requirements (LCR)

SANS 664 RSV: socket ends NRS & flanged ends RS.

Metalsin recognizes the importance of Local Content Requirements (LCR) for government and municipal tenders. Our supply solutions are structured to meet these compliance mandates, ensuring that your project aligns with South African procurement regulations and supports local economic development goals.

3. Advanced Corrosion Protection: FBE & Liquid Epoxy

The durability of our SANS 664 resilient-seated gate valves is enhanced by superior coating technologies applied to both internal and external surfaces. The coating application shall be done in accordance with SANS 1217. We strictly adhere to dry film thickness (DFT) standards to ensure maximum protection against corrosion:

  • Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) Coating: Applied with a minimum DFT of 250μm.
  • Two-pack/liquid epoxy coating: Applied with a minimum DFT of 300μm.

All internally wetted surfaces up to and including the valve spindle seals shall be fully and effectively coated. All surfaces that cannot be coated and tested shall be of corrosion-resistant material. These coatings provide a robust barrier against aggressive soil conditions and treated water chemicals, significantly extending the service life of the valve.
